Got a baba cat sling?
March 13 2007
From Terri Bates -
Hi folks - an unusual one this one!
I'm wondering if anyone has a 'baba sling' (for hanging your small baby around your neck/shoulders) that you could lend/sell (bunyas or otherwise) to me?
Many of you know Xena, my siamese - she's fading and only has a few weeeks/months at the most. She's not suffering, still purring, but weak cos she's not absorbing nutrients. All is being done that can be. (And when she starts to suffer I will do the right thing.) But she wants to be with me all the time more than ever now and she keeps wasting energy following me around the house! It's a bit sad as I pass her slowly catching up with me in one direction, when I'm heading back in the other direction!
I've tried tying her up in a sarong but it doesn't work. I think a baba sling could do the trick.
hugs to all
and love from Miss X too.
Yes - I know - it's a dog! If you've got a sling,
contact me and I'll pass it on to Terri

Many years ago, I played in a duo with Mark Gillett.
We also played in the Hinterland Band and did some great gigs together and played support to some well-known performers.
Mark is a fantastic songwriter and his song Watching The Obi Flow won The National's Declan Affley Songwriting Award, in 1987.
He has been a driving force with the Red Kettle Folk Club for many years.
Mark is well respected and much loved, amongst coast and hinterland musicians.
As some would know, Mark has been fighting off cancer for some time now and using alternative treatments which are costly, so as well as this event being a celebration of The Red Kettle's ten year's existence, it is also a fundraiser for Mark and his wife Narelle, to help defray the cost of treatment.
I hope you can make it and enjoy a great day of music and fun.
Put your name on the blackboard from 2.00pm, if you want to play.
Please forward this on and tell your friends.
regards,
Noel

Who would have thought it? With the majority of the panel members having links to the coal, mining
and fossil-fuel industries, you would have thought...
Th same article (from the Age) states: "Documents from the Government's contract database show the
Coalition has paid CRA International more than $100,000 for advice
on climate-change and energy, including $11,000 for a one-day
review of the British Government's Stern report on global
warming."
Oh well, why are we surprised?

Dennis Shanahan of the Australian has a cushy job. Open press release from the Government each
morning, fix a few commas and his day's op-ed work is done.
For variety, he occasionally runs a White House blow piece, no doubt cleaning up the Americanisms (like calling John Howard
John Major), fixing the commas and heading for lunch.
I will be following his headlines over the coming months, just to see if there's any hint of thoughtful objectivity or if he lives up to his reputation.
Rinse, spin, repeat.
Today's headline (March 13 2007)
(at least he attributes the quote)
wish Australia was part of them.

Good news from Belgium. After forty-six nations--including Britain, Canada,
and Germany--met in Oslo in February and agreed
to work towards a global ban on cluster bombs over the next year, Belgium
became the first
nation to make investing in companies that produce the weapons a crime.
Australian did not attend the conference, perhaps because its good friend
the U.S. declined to turn up.

Listed as a "new requirement" for foreign travelers on U.S. government
business, the memo says that requests for foreign travel "involving or
potentially involving climate change, sea ice, and/or polar bears" require
special handling, including notice of who will be the official spokesman for the
trip.

The planting will be held at Kings Lane Weir - go to the end of Kings Lane,
pass through the gateway and follow the gravel road to the weir. Starts 10am
A fund has also been opened at the Maleny Credit Union for donations to this

little something.

The following is being sent to the Maleny Arts and Crafts Group who have been
put under totally unnecessary pressure about the fate of the building
they use.
From Cr Newman: "Council WILL NOT demolish your premises to deliver a pool
to the Maleny community."

Silverstone
March 10 2007
Silverstone always intended to have multiple sites through the Sunshine Coast and
Caloundra City. Their first attempt at community engagement in Reesville Road
ended badly with Council refusing the event. Since then, they have been
working on two other sites that are partly in Division 1. This time, they are
communicating well with residents and things are going pretty well. Council
has always supported the event so long as these guys undertake appropriate
consultation and address the concerns of residents.

Fresh? Cheap? Hardly....
March 10 2007
It's been brought to my attention (and rightfully so) that I
have posted articles and letters that have alluded to 'the lure of cheap
groceries' at ww. This has been an oversight on my part - have a look at the
price comparison done back in October
last year (the full comparison here,
pdf file) and the complaint to the ACCC
here. A whopping 44% difference! Perhaps I should revise all references to
read 'People are lured into ww to save 10cents on a bottle of coke and end up
spending 44% more on their total grocery bill.'
I think it's time to do another price comparison between ww and
our local IGA. Volunteers?
Sammy
(You may also remember that ww was taken to task over their
claim to be the 'fresh food people'. The ACCC let them off the hook on
this one by stating that 'this term could be considered "puffery" and
not deceptive." I will find the link to that but would appreciate hearing
from anyone who kept the articles)
They're Still WOFing!
