School secures Enviro Fund grant. A Townsville primary school received a $4,072.00 Round 8 grant from the federal government’s Enviro Fund. The grant will be applied to the revegetation of a gully area to provide protection for wildlife. Round 9 grants are now open, with a closing date of 27^th April 2007. Grants of up to $50,000.00 are available. More details. $5,000.00 Youth Grants. Queensland students shared in a recent round of The Spark Fund. $3,853.00 will be used to display graffiti on canvas at schools and the wider community. $5,000.00 goes towards a series of workshops for South Sea Islander youngsters in Brisbane north. Good Citizens.* 1. *Charity auction by Opals Down Under. The proceeds from the sale of a specially designed and crafted opal pendant plus other jewellery will benefit a number of worthy causes including the Rural Fire brigade, PCYC, Salvos, Qld Cancer Fund and Family Challenge, a not-for-profit assisting the rehabilitation of war traumatised children in Africa. Miss Australia Erin McNaught will be the Opals Down Under ambassador on the night. More details. 2. Mud Crab Cup. The good people from Gambaro’s Seafood Restaurant, Caxton Street, Brisbane, will be holding their annual charity Gambaro Mud Crab Cup* on Sunday 25^th February, with proceeds going to The Courier Mail Children’s Charity Fund. 3. *Emergency Architects.* An international not-for-profit organisation that advises and assists populations affected by natural and technological disasters. Capital Campaign Fundraising for extensions to your clubhouse. Capital Campaigns are an intensive fundraising effort designed to raise considerable funds for a specific purpose ( club house extensions/ bricks & mortar) and within a specified timeframe. It is a well targeted large-gift campaign usually aimed at major gifts and those patrons (they have wallets with wallop) who have an identifiable reason to give to your cause. The arithmetic of Capital Campaigns is as follows: one-third of the goal will come from 10-15 donors, the next third comes from 75-100 donors and the balance from the rest. The Queensland government’s theme for 2007 is “Women at Work: Know your rights, it’s your future.” More details. The Australian Defence Force Academy Education Awards. The Award is presented annually to Year 12 students. It recognises their leadership potential, and sporting and academic achievements throughout Year 11. Heights College, Bundaberg, produced one of this year’s successful students. The award is made up of a laptop computer for the students and a plaque for the school.
