Council Withdraw Subsidy ApplicationFeb 2 2007According to a letter from Local Government Planning and Sport (Feb 2 2007), in reply to a letter sent by Maleny District Green Hills on Nov 2006: "Caloundra City Council is currently progressing the withdrawal of its subsidy application for this project, with the condition that it may reapply under the new Water and Sewage Program (WASP) at a later date. Any future applications would be subject to the WASP subsidy guidelines, which are similar to those for the previous program but place greater emphasis on detailed planning and analysis of options. Therefore, it would seem reasonable to expect similar conditions to apply to any subsidy approval for improving the security of water supply to Maleny., including the submission of a report detailing the outcomes of community consultation regarding this issue." See the background briefing on this issue here. Community consultation and analysis of other options has been a major bone of contention between CalAqua and groups such as the Maleny Water Group, Maleny Voice and others. The current study of water supply options (now more than a year late) was to be the first step in the process of consulting with the community on sustainable water supply to Maleny. The gentleman who headed up CalAqua during the 'pipeline or no water' period has left and his replacement - we hope - is looking seriously at long term, sustainable solutions. |
