We Send Emails....

Dear Alan,
I couldn't agree with you more on your stand against the mega-duopoly taking a stranglehold on Australian retailing. Good on you for
standing up to the big boys the way that you do. There must be considerable pressure on your bosses at your radio station from such
large companies (who no doubt have large advertising accounts there).
I should let you know that I come from Maleny in QLD where we had a battle with Woolworths over their supermarket plans in our small
town. I am pleased to report that a vigilant and loyal buying public has ensured the survival of our small shops despite the lure of cheap
groceries down the hill. But it has been and remains a divisive issue
with some people in our town; one that we did not need.
I suppose the moral of this is that government or regulators are not going to do anything. It is up to the individual shoppers to 'vote
with their wallets' as Roger Corbett once said. Providing the awareness and the facts about what is happening is vital in that
process. I applaud you for your convictions on this, and for being one of the few people in a position to make a difference to actually
do so.
Where is the voice against what is happening in the federal opposition? Not being in power gives them considerable scope to
change the direction of the debate, and the public attitude, on this issue. It seems that the Howard government are firmly behind
Woolworths and Coles in their empire building...
I re-watch the documentary film 'The Corporation' from time to time, and have to agree that there really are corporate psychopaths out
there...
Keep up the good and valuable work.
Yours sincerely,
Steve Swayne
